The use of mobile Internet is widespread with the expansion of GPS systems to locate the user’s position and to furnish information on promotions, according to the region where it has already bought their preferences. This, according to Raul de la Parra Lucido, vice president of Strategic Planning of Ericsson.
Lucido believes that the third generation of mobile Internet will have its heyday in americas America by the year 2003, but then it must exist adequate infrastructure and terminals.
The executive said that Ericsson plans to rely on GPS coverage for almost the entire Mexican Republic for next year. However, Lucido suggests that the strategy is to not do it alone. “In Europe, operators unite to install infrastructure GPS, 3G and long distance, even if they are competitors. And it is likely that in Mexico and Latin americas applies this scheme of cooperation.
